This homemade hot chocolate uses heavy cream, a whole dark chocolate bar, and a cinnamon stick for the richest, creamiest, most delicious hot chocolate you've ever had!
Combine the milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon stick in a small saucepan and place on the stovetop over medium heat.
When the milk reaches scalding point (180 degrees F), remove from the heat and remove the cinnamon stick. Add in the chopped chocolate and vanilla and whisk until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
You don't want the milk to boil, so it's best to heat it slowly over medium heat! If you don't have a thermometer, you're just looking for when tiny bubbles start forming along the sides .For best results, use a chocolate bar that is meant for baking!! These melt much smoother than other bars or chocolate chips. See the blog post for my chocolate recommendations! I prefer to use a cinnamon stick to flavor the milk because ground cinnamon sometimes ends up clumpy and doesn't fully melt. But you can use a pinch or two of ground cinnamon if that's all you have.
